Quick Start
A) Client: Use the PacketiX.NET Secure Online Service
- Download the PacketiX VPN Client installation file.
- Install the PacketiX VPN Client software your PC.
- Open the PacketiX VPN Client Manager.
- Double-click "Create New VPN Connection Setting".
- Enter the following settings:
Setting Item Value VPN Server host name public.softether.com VPN Server port number 443 Virtual Hub name PUBLIC User name PUBLIC User authentication anonymous - If necessary, enter the settings for your HTTP proxy server.
- Click OK to leave the window, and double-click on the new connection in the list to connect to the server.
Troubleshooting: In some cases, you can connect to the PacketiX.NET VPN server, but Windows still creates a direct connection to a server on the Internet (your IP does not change). In that case, try changing the interface metric of your physical network connection (not the VPN).
B) Client: Connect a PC / laptop to an existing VPN Server
- Download the PacketiX VPN Client installation file.
- Install the PacketiX VPN Client software on the laptop or other PC from where you want to connect to the server.
- Get the host name, IP, port number and virtual hub name from the admin of the server you wish to connect to.
- Get your user name and a) password or b) certificate from the server admin.
- Open the PacketiX VPN Client Manager.
- Double-click "Create New VPN Connection Setting".
- Name this setting under "Setting Name".
- Enter the host name, port number, virtual hub name, user name and password / certificate you received from the admin.
- If necessary, enter the settings for your HTTP proxy server.
- Click OK to leave the window, and double-click on the new connection in the list to connect to the server.
C) Server: Build a VPN server others can connect to
- Request trial licenses. The trial licenses will be sent to you by email within 5 workdays.
- Download the PacketiX VPN Server installation files.
- Decide which PC to use as your VPN server.
Install the PacketiX VPN Server software on this PC. - Open the PacketiX VPN Server Manager.
- In the Server Manager, click "Create New Setting".
- In the new window, name your server under "Setting Name".
- Check the box "Connect to this Computer (localhost)".
- Click "OK".
- Select your new setting and click "Connect".
- In the window that opens, click "Add / Delete Licenses".
- Add the code under "License Key:" from the mail you received.
- Back in the Setting window, click "Create Virtual Hub".
- Select the virtual hub and click "Manage Virtual Hub".
- In the window that opens, click "Manage Users".
- Go back, select the virtual hub and click "Online" to start up your server.
Users can now install the PacketiX VPN Client to access each other's PCs over your PacketiX VPN Server.
If you want your VPN users to access ressources on the local network, such as a printer or file server, click "Local Bridge Settings" to create a local bridge.
If you want to enable all PCs and devices on a remote network to access your VPN Server, install the PacketiX VPN Bridge software on one PC at the remote network.
