PacketiX VPN 2.0 64-bit Edition

The PacketiX VPN 64-bit Edition greatly enhances operation speed and scalability on native 64-bit systems. It is available for the following 64-bit CPU architectures and operating systems.

CPU architecture: x64 (EM 64T / AMD64)
Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition
Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition
Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition
Linux Kernel 2.4 and 2.6

True support for 64-bit operating systems

With 64-bit CPUs and hardware becoming more widespread, 64-bit operating systems like Windows XP Professional x64 Edition have started to be more common.

Previous 32-bit editions of PacketiX VPN 2.0 were run on 64-bit systems in emulation mode, but there were several limitations like the inability to use Virtual LAN cards and local bridges. Users were not able to use the full speed of the system and the full functionality of the software.

The 64-bit version of PacketiX VPN is optimized for the 64-bit mode of the Windows and Linux 64 bit versions. It shows high performance in 64-bit computing environments.

Increased throughput

Comparison between the 32-bit and 64-bit
versions of PacketiX VPN Server 2.0*1

On hardware with the same power, the 64-bit version achieves a higher throughput than the 32-bit version.

Especially on Gigabit high speed data communication lines, where CPU speed and memory access architecture become a bottleneck, the VPN data throughput can be raised by 17% as tests have shown.

On the same hardware*1, the maximum throughput achieved with the 32-bit version of PacketiX VPN 2.0 was 2.6 Gbps, for the 64-bit version it was 3.1 Gbps.

Increasing the number of VPN sessions and Virtual Hubs that can simultaneously connect to the VPN Server.

With the PacketiX VPN Server 2.0, the number of virtual Hubs can be logged into the server simultaneosly by a VPN session was limited for the 32-bit version. But with the 64-bit version, this technical limit does not exist, and it can support more virtual Hubs and VPN sessions on one server.

This way, for example a service provider sets up an ASP VPN service, which means the VPN Server with many virtual Hubs in a datacenter and rents out usage of these virtual hubs to the enduser, can do so with a 64 bit architecture server computer to accomodate a large number of users with only a few server machines.

While there was a problem about running the 32 bit version of the PacketiX VPN Client 2.0 on a 64 bit Windows system, the 64 bit version of the PacketiX VPN Client 2.0 can be used on these latest operating systems.
