Features

Hardware

RoHS compliance

The new S266 model, introduced in 2007, is fully RoHS compliant, as we recognize the importance of protecting the environment.

Palm-sized compact case

Compact case size of only (L x W x H) 114.5 mm x 81 mm x 38 mm / 4.5'' x 3.2'' x 1.5''. The OBS MicroServer can fit in anywhere, such in a cable tray or inside bigger devices like a vending machine. Inside a dedicated server rack, five units fit on one 19'' slide.

HDD-less and fan-less design to increase reliability

The internal design of the OBS Microserver is optimized to release all heat through the aluminium case, which allows a maximum ambient operating temperature of 40°C / 104°F, even without a fan.
In computer hardware, mechanical parts such as fans and hard disks are the most vulnerable and noisy parts, so removing them allows silent operation and higher reliability.

Expansions

IDE / CompactFlash slot

If more storage space than the internal ROM user area of 3.6MB is required, there are two options: a 2.5'' HDD can be connected to the internal IDE port, or a dautherboard with a Compact Flash card slot can be inserted. The storage device can be used to install a different OS, run additional applications, keep larger log files or use the server as a file proxy or data storage. The internal IDE connector has full DMA functionality.

PCMCIA expansion dock

A separate expansion dock with a PCMCIA slot is available for the OBS, that is connected to the expansion slot under the server.

Software

Preconfigured functionality

The following functionality is available under the standard OS installation:

Supported OSes

SSD/Linux

SSD/Linux is a Linux distribution that was optimized for use with the Plat'Home MicroServer series. It is fast and uses minimum ROM space but supports all necessary hardware and networking functions.
